New Jersey Soap Box Derby
Welcome to the New Jersey Soap Box Derby Website.  This site will help publicize Soap Box racing information for residents in the state of New Jersey.  New Brunswick is currently home to the largest event in the state featuring Stock, Super Stock, and Masters Division races.  The City of Newark is currently building for the 2012 season and will attempt to host an official race on the first week of June.   Both New Brunswick and Newark featured Soap Box Racing in the 50's and 60's and it is great to have this unique opportunity available for youth throughout the state of New Jersey.

The City of New Brunswick's race is annually held on the second weekend in June.  The New Brunswick race will be held on Sunday, June 10th at Johnson & Johnson's World Headquarters in New Brunswick beginning at 9:30am.  Last year the New Brunswick Derby added a Classic Car Show as part of the festivities and it was a huge success for both events.  This year's event will again feature the best of Soap Box Racing and Classic Cars in New Jersey.  The New Brunswick Derby features pre race activities like car kit builders seminars, inspections, practice races, and a variety of special events prior to the race.  Please consult our news/events and clinics/rules pages for more info about these events.

The 2011 New Brunswick champs are as follows: Noah Ratliff won the stock division.  Nina Marie Amadeo won the Super Stock Division and Patrick Flynn won the Master Division.  All three participants advanced to the World Championships in Akron, Ohio last summer and had a wonderful time.  Meredith Miller has also secured a place in the International race as the Regional Rally Champ in the Super Stock Division.  For more info about the New Brunswick race please call the New Brunswick Derby Director - Mike Blackwell at  (732) 745-5125x12 or email mblack942@aol.com.

The New Brunswick race features 50+ soap box entries from around the state of New Jersey.  The winners from New Brunswick advance annually to represent the state in the International Championship in Akron, Ohio in July.  The New Brunswick race features stock, super stock and masters division races.  Kids, don't wait till your 16 to drive.  Start driving Soap Box cars now.  AASBD lowered the age this year to allow kids as young as 7 to begin racing.  A student who is 7 years of age on race day can race in our race this year.

Drivers and their families wishing to enter this race will need to secure a stock, super stock, or masters car or kit.  If you need a new soap box car kit you will need to order and build your car a month or two in advance of the race.  Kits can be ordered online at www.aasbd.org.  The approximate cost is $500-$700 depending on the division.  Most families seek sponsors through local businesses or corporations to help pay for the cost of the soap box car kit and then provide advertising or logos on their cars.
